Rodi lies in the cupped hands of a valley with the delightful little sandy bay of Almirida a short drive to the south. Rising gently away, on one side, are tiered olive groves, while across the valley the Aleppo pines create images of an alpine landscape, both sitting below the perfect blue dome of the sky.
This is the glorious vista that greets you from the verandah as you gaze across the colourful courtyard and rich mosaic of terra-cotta rooftops, towards the theatrical backdrop of the vast mountains. Rodi is a carefully and sympathetically restored Cretan house and the old island is in every breath of the sweet air you breath. A family home sitting in the midst of a spangled galaxy of flowers and greenery. The ancient tree sitting serenely in the courtyard is a graceful complement. What a joy to sit at the tiny table and drink your coffee and take breakfast accompanied by the orchestra of distant sheep bells and the song of birds.
